Why do we need to do a research study on this?
Our goal is healthy and prosperous people. At the high hormone levels of hyperthyroidism, mental symptoms are common. In most cases, the mental symptoms disappear when treating hyperthyroidism, but in some, brain fatigue persists long after the hormone levels have returned to normal. Brain fatigue is defined in this case as difficulty maintaining attention to complex tasks, fatigue, memory difficulties, stress intolerance, irritability, and emotional imbalance.
In some cases, mental fatigue contributes to a persistent deterioration in quality of life after Graves’ illness. Important pieces of the puzzle are still missing in the knowledge about what is the cause of this and about what happens in the brain. It is frustrating both for patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals.
Graves’ disease is a disease caused by an imbalance in the immune system and the most common complication, eye damage, is due to autoimmunity. We hypothesise that the immune system may also be involved in the development of brain fatigue. To determine this, we are conducting a study.
To find out if you are suitable for the study, you go through a web form. You can read more about the study here… It is only when you come to visit us that you will officially be a part of the study. The web form will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. You can cancel and continue later. If you know someone you think might be compatible – ask them to fill out the web form.
